Real food. Carbohydrate first. Performance fuel.

At RED-Scue, we believe sports nutrition should be simple: real food, consistent energy, and enough carbohydrates to support training, recovery, and long-term health.

Our bars are built around one core principle:

Carbohydrates are the body’s primary fuel source for performance.

Yet most athletes under-consume them — often while over-consuming protein — leading to fatigue, poor recovery, and reduced performance.

RED-Scue was created to change that.

Why ingredients matter

Most active people already consume more protein than they need, yet still experience:

  • Low energy availability
  • Poor recovery
  • Hormonal disruption
  • Fatigue and burnout
  • Increased injury risk

The issue is rarely protein.

It is underfuelling carbohydrates.

That’s why RED-Scue is built differently — using diverse, whole-food carbohydrate sources, functional fats, and nutrient-dense ingredients designed to support energy availability.

The RED-Scue formulation philosophy

Every product is built on three layers:

  • Carbohydrate base (primary fuel source)
  • Energy-supporting fats & proteins
  • Functional ingredients & micronutrient-rich botanicals

1. Carbohydrate base (primary fuel source)

Carbohydrates support training performance, brain function, and recovery by replenishing glycogen — the body’s main stored energy source.

We use a diverse real-food carbohydrate system, including:

  • Cassava (fufu)
  • Plantain
  • Dates
  • Maple syrup

Why carbohydrate diversity matters

Unlike single-source carbohydrate products, RED-Scue uses carbohydrate diversity which studies show improve absorption and gut-friendly fuelling.

Cassava and plantain (used in traditional fufu) are:

  • Naturally gluten-free
  • Easily digestible
  • Rich in complex carbohydrates and natural fibres
  • Stable, sustained energy sources
  • Naturally rich in vitamins and minerals (potassium, iron, magnesium)

These staple foods have supported endurance, recovery, and daily energy for generations in East African cultures, including athletes such as Eliud Kipchoge, who are known for relying on simple, staple carbohydrate-rich foods as the foundation of performance nutrition.

2. Energy-supporting fats & proteins

To support satiety, texture, and sustained energy release, we include:

  • Almond butter
  • Tahini (sesame)
  • Coconut oil

These ingredients help:

  • Provide longer-lasting energy
  • Support fullness
  • Complement carbohydrate absorption
  • Contribute to recovery nutrition

Protein is included in a supportive role, not as the dominant focus.

3. Functional ingredients

RED-Scue includes whole-food functional ingredients to support taste, digestion, and nutrient density:

  • Cacao
  • Cinnamon & natural spices
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Chia, flaxseed, pumpkin, sunflower seeds
  • Goji berries

These contribute:

  • Fibre
  • Healthy fats
  • Antioxidants
  • Natural plant compounds

4. Micronutrient-rich botanicals

We include plant-based botanicals to increase nutritional diversity:

  • Beetroot
  • Baobab
  • Moringa
  • Mushroom powder

These provide naturally occurring micronutrients that support:

  • Energy metabolism
  • Immune function
  • Recovery processes
  • General wellbeing

Micronutrients & synergy (why they work better together)

RED-Scue contains naturally occurring vitamins and minerals that work together as part of whole-food nutrition, rather than in isolation.

Key micronutrients include:

  • B vitamins (B1, B2, B3/Niacin, B6, B9/Folate)
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin A
  • Iron
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Potassium
  • Sodium
  • Manganese

Why pairing matters

These nutrients support each other in key physiological processes:

  • Vitamin C + Iron → enhances iron absorption, supporting oxygen transport and reducing fatigue
  • Vitamin A + Iron → supports normal iron metabolism and immune function
  • B vitamins + Magnesium → support energy metabolism and ATP production
  • Vitamin D + Calcium → support bone health, muscle function, and recovery
  • Calcium + Magnesium → support muscle contraction and relaxation balance
  • Sodium + Potassium → maintain hydration balance and nerve/muscle function
  • Vitamin A + Vitamin C → support immune function and antioxidant protection

Why this matters for athletes

Instead of isolated supplementation, RED-Scue focuses on food-based nutrient synergy, supporting:

  • Energy production
  • Muscle function
  • Hydration balance
  • Bone health
  • Immune function
  • Recovery efficiency
  • Metabolic health

Macros per 70g bar

  • Carbohydrates: 37.8g
  • Fat: 16.1g
  • Protein: 7.1g
  • Fibre: 4.4g
  • Energy: ~285 kcal

This format is designed for on the go fuelling before, during, after training, work, or daily life delivering ~38g carbohydrate per bar.

This is based on the science showing 1 hour training on average requires 30-60g carbs (depends on the individual).

Macros per 120g bar

  • Carbohydrates: 64.8g
  • Fat: 27.6g
  • Protein: 12.2g
  • Fibre: 7.5g
  • Energy: ~490 kcal

This format is designed for a breakfast alternative, delivering ~65g carbohydrate per bar.

What this means for performance

This is a carbohydrate-forward fuel system, designed to support:

  • Training performance
  • Energy availability
  • Recovery
  • Long-duration endurance sessions
  • Everyday fuelling consistency

Not a protein bar. A fuel bar built for athletes.

Why RED-Scue is oat-free

All RED-Scue products are intentionally oat-free.

This is important because:

  • Many athletes experience digestive discomfort from oats during exercise
  • Oats can slow digestion when fast energy is needed
  • We prioritise root-based carbohydrates (cassava & plantain) instead
  • It creates a cleaner, more performance-focused energy system

Allergens

RED-Scue bars contain:

  • Nuts (almonds)
  • Sesame (tahini)

May also contain traces of:

  • Other tree nuts
  • Gluten
  • Soya
  • Peanuts
  • Mustard

(due to shared production environments)

All ingredients are plant-based and naturally gluten-free, though not certified allergen-free.

Dietary information

  • Plant-based / vegan-friendly ingredients
  • Naturally gluten-free (cassava-based)
  • Oat-free formulation
  • No artificial sweeteners or stimulants
  • No refined maltodextrin or synthetic additives
  • Made from whole-food ingredients

Flavour system

All bars share the same carbohydrate foundation, with two categories:

Cacao range

  • Chocolate Chip
  • Orange Chocolate

Non-cacao range

  • Vanilla Cinnamon
  • Salted Caramel
  • Lemon Drizzle

Same fuel. Different preference.

RED-Scue Fuelling Jars (120g)

Our fuelling jars extend this philosophy into a larger-format energy product designed for training, endurance sessions, and higher energy demands.

Vanilla (120g)

A smooth, easy-to-digest carbohydrate base designed for steady energy availability.

Cacao (120g)

A richer option built for flavour depth while maintaining the same carbohydrate-first fuelling profile.

Both are built on:

  • Cassava & plantain carbohydrate base
  • Functional fats and seeds
  • Whole-food, oat-free formulation

The bigger picture

RED-Scue exists because underfuelling is still normalised in sport.

We are here to change that.

By making carbohydrate-first fuelling:

  • accessible
  • practical
  • gut-friendly
  • and enjoyable

we help athletes move from restriction to consistent energy availability.

Fuel Without Fear

Because when athletes are properly fuelled, everything improves:
performance, recovery, and long-term health.
