What is RED-Scue?

RED-Scue is a whole-food, carb-first functional energy bar designed to support people experiencing Low Energy Availability (LEA) and RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport).

It exists to make fuelling simple, practical, and consistent — without fear of carbohydrates, without stimulants, and without ultra high protein foods. RED-Scue blends modern sports science with ancestral fuelling wisdom and real lived experience of under-fuelling, burnout, and injury.

Why did you create RED-Scue?

RED-Scue didn’t start as a product idea. It started as a breaking point.

While competing as a Spanish National athlete, I was training hard in a toxic coaching environment and chronically under-fuelling. I was praised for being “disciplined.” In reality, I was energy deficient — and I tore my Achilles.

At the time, the advice was: “eat more, train less.”

There was nothing on the market designed specifically for RED-S fuelling — no practical, carb-first, whole-food support for people training hard and trying to recover.

I tried to fix low energy the way modern sport culture teaches us to:

  • more protein
  • more supplements
  • more discipline

None of it worked.

What changed everything was learning how to actually fuel.

While training in Southern Spain, I was exposed to African endurance fuelling traditions from Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Kenya — cultures that fuel for volume, recovery, and longevity, not restriction. Their staples are simple, carb-first whole foods: teff, cassava fufu, grains, legumes. No gels. No stimulants. No synthetic supplements. Just consistent energy.

Around the same time, I learned how RED-S maps onto what Traditional Chinese Medicine calls Qi deficiency (fatigue, low resilience, poor recovery) and what Ayurveda describes as low Agni and low Ojas (burnout, low digestion, low vitality).

Different systems. Same body. Same root problem:
not enough usable energy coming in to meet demand.

RED-Scue was built from lived experience, study, and going back to basics.

Who are RED-Scue jars for?

RED-Scue is for:

  • Athletes dealing with RED-S or LEA
  • Runners, HYROX athletes, and team-sport players
  • Busy professionals training on low fuel
  • People recovering from burnout, fatigue, repeated injuries, or hormonal disruption
  • Anyone who feels tired, flat, or under-fuelled but is told they’re “fine”

You don’t need a diagnosis to benefit — if you’re under-fuelling, RED-Scue is for you.

How is RED-Scue different from other sports nutrition?

Most sports nutrition is built around:

  • protein obsession
  • caffeine and stimulants
  • ultra-processed “performance hacks”
  • low-carb culture

RED-Scue is built around:

  • carbohydrates first
  • whole foods only
  • fuelling energy availability, not restriction
  • supporting bones, hormones, immunity, and recovery, not just workouts
  • food as daily medicine, not supplements pretending to replace meals

It’s designed for long-term energy and recovery, not short-term stimulation.

Why focus on carbohydrates instead of protein or keto-style fuelling?

Because RED-S is an energy problem, not a protein problem.

Most active people already eat plenty of protein — many eat 30–50% more than recommended — yet still experience fatigue, injury, and burnout. You can’t fuel training, hormones, brain function, or recovery on protein alone.

From sports science:

Carbohydrates restore muscle glycogen, support thyroid and reproductive hormones, protect immune function, and fuel high-intensity training.

From African endurance cultures:

Elite Kenyan runners fuel primarily on carb-first whole foods (often ~65–70% of calories from carbohydrates) and thrive under huge training loads.

From TCM & Ayurveda:

Low energy shows up as Qi deficiency, low Agni, and low Ojas — all pointing back to insufficient usable energy, not a lack of protein.

RED-Scue puts energy back where it belongs.

Is RED-Scue only for during exercise?

No. RED-S and burnout aren’t fixed during workouts — they’re fixed by consistent fuelling across the day.

RED-Scue is for:

  • pre-training
  • post-training
  • between sessions
  • workdays
  • travel
  • everyday energy top-ups

Consistency > perfection.

Is RED-Scue a supplement?

No. RED-Scue isn’t a supplement because RED-S isn’t a supplement problem.
RED-S is a fuel problem.

RED-Scue:

  • Provides carbohydrates (the #1 missing piece in RED-S)
  • Provides real calories to restore energy availability
  • Delivers micronutrients within food, not as isolated pills
  • Fits into real life (busy workdays, missed meals, pre-training fuel, travel days)
  • Supports fueling while training load comes down and recovery goes up

RED-Scue doesn’t replace proper meals — it prevents the gaps that create RED-S in the first place. It’s for the moments when life, training, appetite, or access to food don’t line up with your actual energy needs.

Which deficiencies are most common in REDs/LEA?

Common gaps in chronic under-fuelling include:

  • Low carbohydrate intake (the biggest driver of RED-S)
  • Iron
  • Vitamin D
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Zinc

RED-Scue is designed to support these through whole-food sources, alongside restoring energy intake.

Is RED-Scue backed by science?

RED-Scue is built around what the evidence shows about energy availability and carbohydrates, not diet trends.

Daily carbohydrate needs

  • ~1 hour moderate training/day: 5–7 g/kg body weight/day
  • Fewer than 5% of athletes meet carbohydrate requirements
  • Low energy availability — not training volume alone — drives RED-S and LEA

Yes. RED-Scue is built around research on:

  • Low Energy Availability (LEA)
  • RED-S
  • Glycogen restoration
  • Carbohydrate fuelling for endurance
  • Bone, hormone, and immune health
  • Real-world endurance fuelling traditions

It also aligns with how traditional systems describe low energy states — Qi and Ayurveda

How do I use RED-Scue?

Take it in the morning, as a snack between sessions or during the workday. It can also be taken at night due to its magnesium content for good sleep.

Our Monday-Friday, Monday-Sunday, and 3x a Week packs provide the necessary reuse of RED-Scue to see the full benefits.

RED-S is caused by chronic underfuelling over time, so 1 RED-Scue bar won't solve everything; it must be taken consistently.

What problem does RED-Scue solve?

RED-Scue addresses the fuelling gap — when people:

  • Train hard
  • Eat “well”
  • But still don’t meet carbohydrate or energy needs

This gap is where RED-S and LEA develop.

RED-Scue solves the gap between:

“just eat more”

and

actually having something easy, digestible, carb-first, and designed for RED-S recovery.

It helps remove:

  • fear of carbs
  • reliance on stimulants
  • protein-only fuelling
  • decision fatigue around eating
  • normalising training on empty

Who has tested RED-Scue?

RED-Scue has been tried and supported by:

  • Rio Ferdinand
  • Alistair Brownlee
  • Sara Davies
  • Eric Larchevêque
  • Everette Taylor

And by everyday athletes training for marathons, Hyrox, and endurance events.

Isn’t low-carb better for fat adaptation?

Low-carb approaches may work short-term for some, but chronic low carbohydrate availability is strongly linked to:

  • Bone stress injuries
  • Hormonal disruption
  • Poor recovery
  • Tendon and soft tissue injury

RED-Scue supports performance and health, not one at the expense of the other.
