Fuel Without Fear

FAQs

Everything you need to know about RED-Scue fuel.

What is RED-Scue?
Food-first. Carb-first. Fuel without fear.

RED-Scue is sports fuel made from natural, plant-powered ingredients to help you fuel before, during and after training.

We wanted fuel that tastes good, feels like real food and is something you actually want to come back to.
Why carbohydrate-first and food-first?
Carbohydrates are a key fuel source for training and racing. We wanted to create sports fuel around real, carbohydrate-rich plant foods, rather than another oat-based bar, gel or highly processed option.

Sports fuel should not be a suffer fest or taste gross. If you don't enjoy what you're fuelling with, you're less likely to be consistent with it.
Why cassava + plantain?
Cassava and plantain give RED-Scue its distinctive carbohydrate base, alongside dates and other plant ingredients.

They bring different types of starch and plant nutrients, giving you a food-first alternative to the usual gels, powders and oat-based bars.

They are also familiar carbohydrate-rich foods in many traditional diets around the world.
How was RED-Scue created?
RED-Scue was born from my own experience as an athlete.

After tearing my Achilles, I realised I hadn't been fuelling enough for the training I was doing. Gels didn't agree with my gut, and I couldn't find sports fuel I actually wanted to eat.

So I made it.

RED-Scue = RED-S × Rescue.
What are the bars made from?
Our bars are built around cassava, plantain and dates, with ingredients such as maple syrup, coconut oil and nut or seed butters.

Depending on the flavour, you may also find cacao, goji, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, beetroot, baobab and moringa.

Every ingredient is there for a reason — creating fuel that is carbohydrate-rich, food-first and enjoyable to eat.
How much carbohydrate is in a bar?
Each 70g bar provides around 38g of carbohydrate.

That's why we call RED-Scue carb-first fuel — designed for before, during and after training.
What are the breakfast jars?
Our breakfast jars combine cassava, plantain and sorghum with dates and other natural ingredients.

They contain more protein than our bars, making them a more substantial breakfast option for race mornings, training, travel and busy days.

Bars: portable, carb-first fuel.
Jars: a more substantial carbohydrate-rich breakfast.
When can I eat RED-Scue?
Before training: convenient carbohydrate-rich fuel.

During training or racing: a solid, smooth alternative when you want something more substantial than a gel.

After training: convenient food-first fuel.

Or simply whenever you need something easy to eat during travel, work, study, camping or busy days.
Are RED-Scue products gut-friendly?
We use simple, familiar ingredients and make our bars soft, smooth and fudgy rather than dry or crumbly.

Our bars contain no maltodextrin, artificial sweeteners or emulsifiers.

Everyone's gut is different, so always practise with your chosen fuel in training before race day.
What ingredients don't you use?
RED-Scue is made without:

Oats · maltodextrin · refined sugar · artificial sweeteners · emulsifiers · potassium sorbate

We also use no caffeine or stimulant ingredients.

RED-Scue is vegan and dairy-free, with no gluten-containing ingredients.
Is RED-Scue caffeine-free?
Yes. RED-Scue is caffeine-free.

There are no caffeine or stimulant ingredients added, so you can choose your fuel based on the food and carbohydrates — not a caffeine hit.
What allergens are in RED-Scue?
Our products contain tree nuts and sesame.

They may contain traces of gluten, soya, mustard, celery and peanuts.

We use no gluten-containing ingredients, but because of potential cross-contact, always check the individual product label for the most up-to-date allergen information.
What's the good stuff?
Fuel isn't just about carbohydrates. RED-Scue also brings fibre and a range of vitamins and minerals through its plant-based ingredients.

Depending on the product and flavour, these include iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and vitamin D where the vitamin D blend is included.

We also use ingredients such as baobab, moringa, beetroot and mushroom for nutritional variety.

RED-Scue is sports fuel, not a multivitamin — it is designed to add to a varied diet, not replace one.
Why focus on iron, calcium, vitamin D and vitamin C?
These are important nutrients to consider as part of a varied diet.

Iron: contributes to normal oxygen transport and energy metabolism.
Calcium: supports normal bones, muscles and nerve function.
Vitamin D: supports normal bones, muscles and immune function.
Vitamin C: supports normal immune function and helps with iron absorption.

The aim is simple: fuel the training while adding nutritional variety too.
Is RED-Scue vegan?
Yes. Our bars and breakfast jars are vegan and dairy-free.
What makes RED-Scue different?
RED-Scue sits in the middle of the sports-fuel world: real food without having to make your own.

It's carb-first, food-first, vegan, dairy-free and caffeine-free, made with cassava and plantain rather than oats, and without maltodextrin, refined sugar, artificial sweeteners, emulsifiers or potassium sorbate.

The bars are soft, smooth and fudgy, with around 38g carbohydrate per 70g bar.

Because ultimately, the best fuelling strategy is the one you'll actually want to eat and stick to.
Can I take RED-Scue travelling?

The bars are designed to fit easily into a running belt or cycling jersey pocket, with a small rip tab for easy opening.

Because carbohydrates aren't just for race day.
What does RED-Scue mean?
RED-Scue = RED-S × Rescue.

Fuel Without Fear is about making fuelling feel more practical, enjoyable and sustainable.
